MANTRA MEDITATION
The mantra meditation technique involves the slow repetition of a seed word either in your mind or out loud.
A word which consists of one or two syllables with no hard consonants is recommended.
Words like On or Om (OOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM.......) repeated slowly in the mind or out loud have a built-in effect which is conducive to the general physical well-being of the body.
The following example uses the Hebrew word 'Shalom' which means peace and which contains strong inner vibrations.
Set aside 15 minutes when you will be undisturbed.
Sit in a comfortable chair which supports your back with your hands on your lap and your legs uncrossed.
Begin by observing your breathing. Do not change your breathing patterns but simply watch the rhythm of the breath as it enters and leaves your body.
After a couple of minutes of watching the breath, begin to chant 'Shalom' very slowly either silently in your mind or out loud.
Do not worry if your mind wanders. Bring your attention back to the mantra.
Continue to chant the mantra for the next ten minutes noticing any sensations you may experience.
