Psychosynthesis

Psychosynthesis is best known in its use as a method of counselling or psychotherapy.

However the principles of psychosynthesis are also used in such fields as personal and spiritual development, creativity (art, music, writing) business and education.

Psychosynthesis was founded by Roberto Assagioli in 1910.

His system was designed to produce personal growth and integration through a diverse range of creative and spiritual methods such as working with subpersonalities, guided imagery or drawing.

Psychoanalysis is concerned with exploring the lower unconscious , the past and the "basement" of the psyche.

Psychosynthesis is particularly involved with exploring the superconscious and the future development of the psyche.

One meaning of synthesis is integration and psychosynthesis is also a fusion of many concepts from both eastern and western traditions.

Disciplines as diverse as psychology, physics, anthropology and yoga have all had an influence on the shaping of psychosynthesis.

Psychosynthesis involves discovering the flawed aspects of ourselves that we project onto others, or hide, or repress and then integrating these selves with our conscious personality, our gifts and our Spirit.

The hidden selves, the conscious personality with its gifts and talents and the wisdom of the Soul are integrated to produce emotional and mental healing and self development.

Experiences in life may cause us to fragment, dissociate, disconnect and lose our selves. Psychosynthesis is one method of putting ourselves back together again.
